Outdoor Solar Holiday Lights - Ready for Primetime?

solarnetlightsIt seems to be a home application for solar technology that makes a lot of sense, and should be easy to implement - solar outdoor holiday and seasonal lighting. As long as you have the sun in your yard, why not use it to power your outdoor lighting -- whether for holiday / seasonal lights in your trees and shrubs, safety lighting, camping lighting or just decorative outdoor lighting. These lights are weatherproof, and once placed where you want them, will charge in the sunlight, and automatically (or with a switch) turn on and provide you with your desired lighting -- no cords running to your house outlet!

EarthLEDs - Ugly?

alt

Light bulbs. A necessary part of most of our lives. Most bulbs even today are traditional incandescent bulbs - not very energy efficient. Enter the CFL - compact fluorescent lamp (or light), or "CFL" for short. Designed to replace old-style incandescent bulbs, CFLs will fit most light fixtures made for incandescents. They last longer and generally use less power than old-style incandescent's, and cost more. These CFLs, however, produce light by sending current through a mercury gas-filled tube--mercury, of course, is a hazardous substance and special consideration is needed in handling these CFLs during disposal and also in the event of the CFL breaking. Enter EarthLEDs, which claim to be a better alternative to CFLs, with better energy efficiency, and no hazardous substance concerns. I've taken a look, and I like them.
